Master the home-row position
The home row is the foundation of touch typing. Your index fingers rest on F and J — the keys with the small bumps — and every other finger returns there between keystrokes. This is the position every speed typist starts from, and the one our home-row guide covers in detail.
Correct hand posture
- Feet flat, elbows ~90°, wrists floating above the keyboard — never resting heavily on the desk.
- Curve your fingers naturally; don't flatten them against the keys.
- Screen at eye level so your neck stays neutral — neck strain caps speed faster than finger fatigue.
Finger assignments for each key
Each finger owns a fixed column of keys. Memorising this map is what lets you stop looking down — your fingers always know where to go.
